What Can I Expect When I Apply for a Residential Permit?

  • Permitting staff will also try to clarify any issues that arise during the brief completeness review so that your application can be processed as quickly as possible.
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted. A Permit Technician or Plans Examiner will go over your application packet to ensure that it is complete.
  • Some applications that are for simple projects can be issued over the counter, while you wait. Others will require review by a Plans Examiner.
  • When your plans have been approved (usually within 2-4 weeks), you will be notified.
  • Your permit approval is valid for 180 days. You may ask for your permit at any time during the period.
