ETHNIC CELEBRATION
Learn about Olympia's rich culture! This annual February event honors our diverse backgrounds with sensations for the eyes, ears and palate. Delicious ethnic foods, traditional dance and music stages, demonstrations, plus elaborate display booths by ethnic community groups. HOTSPOT BASKETBALL COMPETITION
Your young hoopster will enjoy this free and exciting shooting skill competition for girsl & boys ages 7-14 this February. Our competition features one-minute individual shooting rounds during which competitors test their accuracy from five "hotspots" marked on the court. Each age-group champion receives an award and the opportunity to represent our community at the State Championship in March. ARTS WALK
Come on downtown to celebrate the arts in our community! Experience visual and performing arts in over 100 businesses by hundreds of artists every fourth Friday/Saturday in April and first Friday in October. Special features include hands-on family activities, demonstrations and impromtu street performances. The spring Arts Walk includes the incredible the Procession of the Species produced by Earthbound Productions. For artists, art lovers and the art curious, this event is a wonderful opportunity to embrace the arts in all forms! Maps with listings of venues and artists are available two weeks before the event at participating locations and at The Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. NW, in downtown Olympia. OUTDOOR LIFE FESTIVAL
Join The Alpine Experience, The Olympia Mountaineers, Olympia Parks, Arts & Recreation and many representatives from the outdoor retail industry for this great May event. At this fun festival for all ages, you can sample some of the latest kayak or backpacking gear or try your hand at rock climbing. Novices can get involved with "Discovery Experience" for basic instruction in kayaking and rock climbing. This is a great way to kick off the summer! PITCH, HIT & RUN
This May baseball skills competition sponsored by Aquafina and Major League Baseball gives kids ages 7-14 an opportunity to demonstrate their pitching, batting and base running abilities. Competition begins at the local level and advances up to the National Finals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis during the 2009 MLB All-Star Week in July! ARTISTS' GARAGE SALE
Looking for art? Check out the Artists' Garage Sale this May, where you can find everything from stuff to make art to finished works ready to take home! HERSHEY TRACK MEET FOR KIDS
This competition is perfectly suited for beginners or experienced tracksters. Running, jumping and throwing come naturally to kids! This June meet is full of fun and includes the 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600-meter races, 4x10 relay, standing long jump and softball throw. STORIES IN THE PARK
June & July - Bring your lunch and a blanket or lawnchair and enjoy an hour of stories, geared toward a mature audience, told by the South Sound Story Guild! August - Bring a blanket or lawnshair and a flashlight to Priest Point Park and enjoy an assortment of entertaining stories told by members of the South Sound Story Guild. Family stories for the very young and young at heart are told from 7-8pm. Spooky stories and creepy tales are told from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK
Enjoy the fun and excitement of this skills contest sponsored by the NFL this September! Regardless of playing ability, your youngster will have the opportunity to practice their football fundamentals and test their skills in punting, passing and kicking. Top finishers in each division receive custom ribbons and may even advance to the NFL National Finals through sectional and Team Seahawk competitions. SOCCER CHALLENGE
If your child enjoys kicking around a soccer ball, they are going to love this September event! Each girl and boy gets a chance to test their individual skills in goal-shooting, dribbling, kicking and throw-ins. Everyone receives a ribbon, participation certificate and lots of support from friendly staff and volunteers.
